Top of the Rock is a six-level observatory on an Art Deco skyscraper at the Rockefeller Center. The deck was originally designed to resemble the upper decks of a 1930s grand ocean liner, complete with deck chairs, goose-neck fixtures, and large air conditioning vents intended to look like the stacks on a ship’s deck.
Originally opened to the public in 1933, the observation deck at Rockefeller Center was closed to the public in 1986. Following a renovation costing $75 million, the Top of the Rock Observation Deck reopened to the public in November 2005.
The Top of the Rock observatory offers fantastic 360-degree views of the New York City skyline, including fantastic views of Central Park, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, as well as the Hudson and East Rivers.

The security guards can be very helpful in identifying landmarks if youre not sure what you’re looking at. To enjoy the view from a slightly higher place and for getting better pictures, you should climb up to the main deck otherwise, you would have to take pictures through glass.
